The brown crake (''Amaurornis akool''), or brown bush-hen, is a waterbird in the rail and crake family (''Rallidae'') found in South Asia. Its genus name, ''Amaurornis'', comes from the Greek ''amauros'', meaning "dusky" or "brown" and ''ornis'', meaning "bird".〔Jobling (2010), p. 43〕 The species name, ''akool'', is of uncertain origin. It may come from Hindu mythology, or it may be a derivation of the Sinhalese word ''kukkula'', which is used for both moorhen and watercock.〔Jobling (2010), p. 37.〕 ==Gallery== File:Brown Crake (Amaurornis akool) near Hodal, Haryana W IMG 6384.jpg|at Hodal, Faridabad, Haryana, India.
